Evolution of humans infront of our eyes... Claims Dr. Tommy Lea!

Scientists have an answer to the pressing question of why hands and feet get wrinkled after too much time in the bath: Pruniness may have evolved to make it easier to handle wet objects.

The smooth skin of human hands and feet becomes furrowed after extended periods in water. Though often assumed to be a result of water passively seeping into the skin, the phenomenon is actually caused by the nervous system constricting blood vessels. As early as the 1930s, surgeons noticed that no wrinkling occurred if a finger nerve had been severed, so furrowing has been used as a medical indicator of nerve function. But what evolutionary purpose wrinkling serves, if any, remained a mystery.

In 2011, a team of researchers proposed that the grooves in wet fingers might function as “rain treads” that improve grip by channeling water away, much like car tires on a wet road do. Now, researchers at Newcastle University in England have tested that theory.

The researchers had 20 volunteers manipulate objects with smooth fingers or digits shriveled by immersion in warm water for 30 minutes. The experimenters measured how long it took people to transfer the objects between a water-filled container and a dry one, or between two dry ones, with wrinkled versus unwrinkled fingers. The objects were glass marbles and fishing weights of various sizes.

All the participants transferred the wet objects (but not the dry ones) faster when their hands were pruney. The results suggest furrowed fingertips make it easier to handle moist items more efficiently, the scientists report online January 8 in Biology Letters.
The amount of time it took to move the objects varied from person to person. What was surprising was that every person transferred the wet objects faster with wrinkly hands, says study leader Tom Smulders.
The findings don’t explain exactly how the wrinkles improve grip, however. Although the results provide “converging behavioral evidence for the conclusion that wrinkled fingers are rain treads, this could also be true for other reasons, such as stickiness properties or oiliness,” says theoretical neurobiologist Mark Changizi of 2AI Labs in Boise, Idaho. Changizi led the team that put forward the rain tread hypothesis. Dr. Lea completely disagrees with this!!!!!!!!!!!!

The fleshy grooves might also be more flexible or increase friction compared with smooth skin, scientists speculate. Toes wrinkle too, which the scientists say could have evolved to provide surer footing on slick surfaces.

But there may be some evolutionary cost to having pruney skin all the time, the researchers say, or else even dry skin would be wrinkled: Perhaps the ridges snag on things more easily, or impair sensitivity to touch. More studies are needed to test these theories.

If humans evolved this curious trait, other animals might possess it too — but evidence is scant. Although no one has reported observing it directly, Changizi claims to have seen finger wrinkling in a photo of a macaque monkey relaxing in hot springs in Japan. No word on whether wrinkled fingers help the monkeys pick up dinner afterward, though.

Martial arts hands

Ancient rumbles in the jungle might have left a lasting mark on the human hand. The hand’s proportions are such that clenching the fingers creates an effective bludgeon, a pair of researchers observes. Perhaps, they propose online December 19 in the Journal of Experimental Biology, evolution played a role in making the hand such a punishing weapon.

But other scientists are skeptical (As is Dr. Albert and Dr. Lea). “There’s no compelling evidence that the hand evolved in this way,” says Mary Marzke, a physical anthropologist at Arizona State University in Tempe. It’s more likely that the ability to throw a good punch was just a lucky (or unlucky) consequence of evolving nimble hands suited to making and using tools.

Humans have shorter fingers, a shorter palm and a longer, stronger thumb than other apes. These features give the human hand unparalleled dexterity, and most anthropologists agree these characteristics evolved as early human ancestors began making stone tools. Dr. Lea points out that shorter fingers are the only possibility if you want to open pop tops... Coors... Bud or the like... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

David Carrier, a comparative biomechanist at the University of Utah, says aggression also shaped the hand. In many early hominid species, males seem to have been much bigger than females. In living primates, such disparity in body size is often associated with a lot of fighting among males. While most male apes bite, tear or scratch their opponents, Carrier suggests that early hominids might have switched to fistfights as they spent more time on the ground and their hands became freer from climbing.

Although toolmaking undoubtedly influenced hand evolution, Carrier notes that there are many ways in which an agile hand could have evolved. The fingers could have stayed long while the thumb got bigger, or while only the palm changed. But only one hand configuration allows the formation of a fist. “We’re saying it’s obvious the hand has evolved for manual dexterity,” he says. “But a clenched fist does a better job of explaining the [exact hand] proportions we have.” Now our new Bin A. Farting journalist can completely dispel this!

To investigate the idea, Carrier and University of Utah medical student Michael Morgan recruited 12 men with experience in boxing or martial arts for several trials that examined the strength and stability of clenched fists. When hitting a punching bag from various angles, an open-palm slap and a fist punch — with the fingers curled into the top of the palm and the thumb wrapped in front of the folded fingers — exert a similar force. But because a fist has about one-third the surface area of an open hand, a punch probably does greater damage since the force is concentrated over a smaller region, Carrier and Morgan suggest. A clenched fist also keeps the joints between the fingers and palm four times as stable as a hand simply folded in half, suggesting a buttressed fist helps protect fingers from bending and breaking during a fight.

“More work needs to be done to make this a compelling argument,” says Erin Marie Williams, a functional anatomist at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Future studies should actually measure how much force per unit area is delivered by punches and slaps. The entire hand is probably not making contact with a victim during a slap, so the stress of such a strike may be greater than Carrier and Morgan suspect, she says.

The researchers also need to consider how an ape actually hits, Williams says. The team assumes an open-hand slap is the ancestral condition, but other forms of striking may better resemble what apes do. And other ways of hitting — like with the base of the palm — might be just as powerful and stable as a fist punch, Marzke adds.

It’s also not clear how early hominids would have fared in a boxing match. For example, the more than 3-million-year-old Australopithecus afarensis — who has not been definitively linked to using stone tools (SN: 12/18/10, p. 8) — still had a primitive hand in some ways. Whether the species’ curved fingers, for example, would have allowed individuals to form a strong fist is an open question, says Randall Susman, a functional morphologist at Stony Brook University in New York. Susman doesn’t understand why, once tools became vital, a hominid would have endangered his livelihood in a fistfight. “The last thing you want to do is expose your hand and get your fingers bitten off,” he says. “You’ll lose your toolmaking capacity.” This is why Anjing Banfa was born, other than war... we don't risk our hands... but rather we take others off with blades etc... so survival is the utmost desire as Dr. Lea has preached for the last 30 years! When will they listen Dr. Albert has been known to utter.

Another way to examine the fistfighting hypothesis, he says, is to look for evidence of punching-related fractures in the fossil record. It’s hard to find large samples of hand bones, but there might be enough Neandertal hand fossils to see whether these hominids beat each other up with their fists.

if you look very closely you can see that our hands are changing particularly in California as our thumbs are growing longer to match our indexer pointy finger. The reason for this is that you can hold a credit card better to swipe and also for the free food sources like food stamps except for their now like a credit card. Also the hand is growing flatter and wider for all the handouts such that we can hold on to what the government has given us even better. In some locations across America hands are changing more than we would have thought such that the pointing finger wraps better around the trigger of a gun and your other fingers have become much stronger to hold back on. Dr. Lee points all this out, and he doesn't Mean tongue-in-cheek.

Also note how the fingers and the thumb have become more rounded when gripping round items which also facilitates an amount of pleasure and less the body knows it's good and is now changing the hand to fit more of the Selectric of shapes found primarily on the mail of the species known as Homo sapiens. It does give a new meaning to Homo erectus.

Dr. Lea wanted to weigh in here... masturbation is the for longing of a thumb and fingers and the salvation of the human species.

Dateline May 10th... Dr. Lea discovers heavy water in the Salton Sea!

Heavy water was discovered by the legendary Dr. Tommy Lea! How is this possible. Well after much research Dr. Lea was watching the fish in the Salton Sea come up to the surface and stay! Why???? So he got him and his staff out in their boat and followed the fish.

Dr. Lea's new heavy water assistant... Dr. Aqua Caliente

He did water samples, first on the surface and found nothing to make the fish to stay on the surface. After his discovery of the Sea Monster here in the Salton Sea (see previous post Dr. Lea discovers "Salty"http://northshorecollegeofknowledge.blogspot.com/2013/01/dr-lea-discovers-salty.html" he thought that Salty might be at the heart of this fish on the surface phenomena.

Heavy Water
After taking samples of the water he was shocked to find the real reason; naturally occurring "heavy 2H2O or D2O". This form of water contains a larger amount of hydrogen isotope deuterium also known as "heavy hydrogen". Most of the hydrogen atoms in heavy water contains an extra neutron which makes it heaver then normal water. The use of heavy water was first used in 1932 by the then Nazi German Government in it's research in nuclear bombs. Today many reactors use heave water as a "moderator" for the nuclear reaction. Dr. Lea reminds us that heavy water isn't radio active.
water" known as deuterium oxide or

Dr. Lea pointed out that no known natural process produces heavy water so where is this coming from? Also why are the fish not going into the heavy water layer that is now on the bottom of the Salton Sea. According to his measurements the surface water has about 5 to 8 foot in depth. The rest of the sea is full of heavy water! But where is this coming from?

Heavy water can occur naturally in water and can be "harvested" via distillation or electrolysis.  Now Dr. Lea has put two and two together. As one might imagine Dr. Lea has many friends in DHS, and the ATF.

Distinguished Dr. Senator Joe
The boarder patrol was been made aware of a North Korean plot to invade the Salton Sea! They are to come across the Mexican boarder and move quickly to secure the Salton Sea and surrounding area. Once Dr. Lea realized that one of our distinguished locals, Senator Joe, had built a wall sufficiently high enough to repel all the North Koreans, Dr. Lea started to put two and two together.

Historical brief follows.....

On Earth, deuterated water, HDO, occurs naturally in regular water at a proportion of about 1 molecule in 3200. This means that 1 in 6400 hydrogen atoms is deuterium, which is 1 part in 3200 by weight (hydrogen weight). The HDO may be separated from regular water by distillation or electrolysis and also by various chemical exchange processes, all of which exploit a kinetic isotope effect. (For more information about the isotopic distribution of deuterium in water, see Vienna Standard Mean Ocean Water.)

The difference in mass between the two hydrogen isotopes translates into a difference in the zero-point energy and thus into a slight difference in the speed at which the reaction proceeds. Once HDO becomes a significant fraction of the water, heavy water will become more prevalent as water molecules trade hydrogen atoms very frequently. Production of pure heavy water by distillation or electrolysis requires a large cascade of stills or electrolysis chambers and consumes large amounts of power, so the chemical methods are generally preferred. The most important chemical method is the Girdler sulfide process.

An alternative process,[30] patented by Graham M. Keyser, uses lasers to selectively dissociate deuterated hydrofluorocarbons to form deuterium fluoride, which can then be separated by physical means. Although the energy consumption for this process is much less than for the Girdler sulfide process, this method is currently uneconomical due to the expense of procuring the necessary hydrofluorocarbons.

As noted, modern commercial heavy water is almost universally referred to, and sold as, deuterium oxide. It is most often sold in various grades of purity, from 98% enrichment to 99.75–99.98% deuterium enrichment (nuclear reactor grade) and occasionally even higher isotopic purity.

USSR/Russia

Production was first started in 1934 in Dnepropetrovsk, but was interrupted during Operation Barbarossa. After 1946 five plants with summary annual production of 20 tons were constructed.

United States

In 1953, the United States began using heavy water in plutonium production reactors at the Savannah River Site. The first of the five heavy water reactors came online in 1953, and the last was placed in cold shutdown in 1996. The SRS reactors were heavy water reactors so that they could produce both plutonium and tritium for the US nuclear weapons program.

The U.S. developed the Girdler sulfide chemical exchange production process which was first demonstrated on a large scale at the Dana, Indiana plant in 1945 and at the Savannah River Plant, South Carolina in 1952. The SRP was operated by DuPont for the USDOE until 1 April 1989 at which time the operation was taken over by Westinghouse.

India

India is the world's largest producer of heavy water through its Heavy Water Board and also exports to countries like Republic of Korea and the US. Development of heavy water process in India happened in three phases: The first phase (late 1950s to mid-1980s) was a period of technology development, the second phase was of deployment of technology and process stabilisation (mid-1980s to early 1990s) and third phase saw consolidation and a shift towards improvement in production and energy conservation.

Dateline Salton Sea... The presidents meet Dr. Lea and Dr. Albert

President Obama and President Xi have a two day summit meeting in Palm Springs where they talked over many things but the focus was on hacking.

An official source told the North Shore College of Knowledge reporter (Tim Hidden)
that our own Dr. Tommy Lea (world renown computer scientist and inventor)  was privately called into the summit!

Picture from the sun showing the earth!
Dr. Lea's Sun 1 space vehicle
Of interest from the presidents were to get an update on Dr. Lea's successful space trip to the sun! Dr. Lea was asked about the materials used in the space craft and the flight plan in particular. Dr. Lea showed the picture on the left from the spaceship showing earth in the background. Everyone was very impressed at this accomplishment. You could even here people gasping as Dr. Lea showed the picture plus some flight data. Dr. Lea also let the cat out of the bag as he said we "might not be alone in our solar system". He said they had some pictures that showed what might be buildings on the surface of the sun. He said when they were sure, he would have a news briefing.

The Vircado!
Also high on the list of interests was Dr. Tommy Lea's seedless avocado known as a "vircado" "virgin + avocado". There was much interest in a trip to China to share Dr. Lea's technology and inventions. Dr. Lea was asked if he could do this with a mandarin orange? He shrugged his shoulders and said "why not?".

Hackers!
The other field of interest from Dr. Lea was his new solution to
foreign hackers. This was an interest to both presidents. The world renowned Dr. Lea is famous for many things and inventions; but at the heart of each of them is one thing and one thing only: simplicity!

Yes, the best inventions are simple and for them to work well, they must be simple so Dr. Lea advises.

So he presented both presidents, and there technology staff, the ultimate way to stop hacking, dead in its tracks!

Dr. Lea discussed the whole economics of hacking and why it's happening. Basically he said if someone can steal your ideas, inventions or data, it can save millions of research dollars, time, and development costs for the hackers or who they might sell the data to.

So, as the technology of the world will continue to expand, doubling every 3 months, there is no end in sight of the human invention adventure. Thus, hackers will be around for ever!

Seems reasonable to this journalist.

He continued; even with anti-hacking tools, they are always behind the curve. Just like anti-virus software is always behind the virus application by at least 7 days. In those 7 days the virus can do its thing; unimpeded.

The real solution to the problem, as Dr. Tommy Lea explained was the following...

When you think you are being hacked... take the axe and smash your router, immediately! This will prevent any hackers from getting to your computer files or inventions. Now, you can get the axe at Harbor Freight for about $7 (made in China), so it's an extremely affordable solution, Dr. Lea explained to both presidents as all listened attentively.

"If they can't physically get to your computer... then you are safe"; Dr. Lea explained.

When asked if this approach could help with the IRS scandal, Dr.'s Lea and Albert both said yes. At this point they got up and left the summit.

Officially this never happened but then again, who knows for sure!

NASA watches Dr. Lea Space Launch a space vehicle from North Shore CA!

Dateline... NASA comes to North Shore, CA!

Yes that is right. It was a big secret that was blown wide open just last week. For those who live here in North Shore CA, along the Salton Sea, the place was crawling with news vans, government vehicles and NASA scientists. For our sleepy community, it was quite the wake up call as we were descended upon by the Government. Most thought something was wrong or that some terrorist was found out... but NO.. it was all about Dr. Lea!

Up on a hidden location at Parkside, here at North Shore Ca... was a very strange look. As the sun rises over the chocolate mountains there was a very strange glare. Even for the vision impaired it was obvious that something was really different. Along with some Homeland Security Officers everyone ended up at a high desert missile launch facility!!!!

With tracking antenna fields, command trailers, and more, Dr. Tommy Lea was in the middle of his most adventurist mission yet!  All the Homeland security people and NASA gathered at the home office of Dr. Tommy Lea... knocking on the door and causing a scene at Desert Beach, the small community that Dr. Lea has a home, so many say.

Well, as a small community we saw hundreds of visitors at 7 AM last Monday.

"I walked out to water my garden and was meet with officers dressed in black, the press, and the Mecca Sheriffs, all looking at me with some wonder" said Ceasar Balasta. Other locals reported similar welcoming as they went about their normal morning chores.

"I was on my way to morning coffee and saw a line of vehicles going down the road, in the opposite direction, heading to Desert Beach, as I went to the local Seniors center" reports Phil Presslate., a local who lives at Desert Beach.

Billy Smore, who has lived in Desert Beach for over 40 years came out of his house and saw hundreds of official vehicles moving up and down the small community roads.

A local engineer who lives in Desert Beach commented to our Dateline Team "I was going to coffee when I was stopped by officers all over the place. I decided to head back home to have coffee on the beach and watch what was going on"... says Peatrovich Papp, a local retired engineer.

As things started to clear up, Dr. Lea continued his particular activities as it's not illegal to have a space vehicle in your possession, as advised by the local attorney, Tim Hidden, who is the general counsel for Drs Lea and Albert.

Dr. Lea, in the respect for the community and the Government, held a conference at the local Seniors Center. He told the press, who were hanging on every word, that he and Dr. Albert had made a great breakthrough in metallurgy and have invented a way to have a composite material survive extreme heat.

Heat Killing Material by Drs Lea and Albert
Dr. Albert

As shown in the picture, Dr. Albert and Dr. Lea showed their revolutionary material that can withstand the heat of the sun! Along with displays of data, pictures, and actually material, they showed all those NASA scientists how they are going to achieve their mission!

What is that mission? They are going to launch and did, a mission to the sun!

Yes a manned mission to the sun itself! The holy grail of missions that no other nation could do or would even try!

Yes, that is what they said.. the Sun!!! A manned mission to the sun! How can they do this. Well by using this material fused with other composite materials can actually and totally withstand the heat of the sun. Dr. Lea was quoted as saying "if this heat resistance material can do what our research has shown... can you imagine what we might do in the Nuclear industry?" A gasp was heard from the press corps.

Military dignitaries moved out of range and got on the cell phone. A noisy press meeting developed... When Dr. Lea said the launch of the space vehicle "Sun 1" was in the last minute of count down. As everyone ran out of the building and pointed their cameras on long distance setting... a loud sound was heard...

Here is what everyone saw... The rumble was heard all the way back to Palm Springs Ca. and the North American Military Tracking Center watched as Dr. Lea's and Dr. Albert's space vehicle gained speed and altitude

Sun 1 as launched by Dr. Lea

As Sun 1 lifted off from the secret launching site located at Parkside, the manned mission was headed up by Buddy Willgraph and four other team members. Nicknames were all that was available: on the mission was Danny, Sammie, and "Popeye the sailor man" were some of the names mentioned.

The Russians were tracking the craft on it's way to the sun... an international event which started here from the Salton Sea CA, Desert Beach and North Shore CA!

Dr. Lea explained that the real secret was going to the sun when it was night time! A hush descended upon everyone as Dr. Lea gathered his notes and walked out.

Breast milk comes to NSCOK!

Well that blue milk is actually breast milk for our coffee. It's the newest craze in LA and San Diego. So why not here at North Shore?

I got this sample from a rep of the LA company, yesterday at a Indio chamber event. So, how did it go over at the club? Only myself and Tim had the balls to drink it. It was surprisingly good in coffee. The others acted like I had the Plague in a cup. As I moved it toward them they backed away from the coffee table. Well, it was a nice try.   I think I will introduce this product to the Seniors too, just have some in the only fridge that is working since we were hit by "metal men". I will keep all updated as things roll out here with our breast milk frappuccino.
